Our honey bees live in the natural reserves in Ancares and Courel. They share the area with local grizzly bears in forests filled with oak and chestnut trees, heather, bramble and thyme.
This mountain honey is delicious food for local grizzly bears inhabiting the forests of eastern Galicia. Therefore, historically the hives were kept within walled settlements called «albarizas» that prevented bears’ access to the honeycombs. In Toca-Honey we have recovered the tradition of placing the hives into the «albarizas» which allows us to cohabit with the grizzly bears in the mountain and respect the rich biodiversity of the area.
